Finding Your Flow

Energy is in constant motion, and resistance occurs when meeting an opposing force.


Are you rushing the process, or forcing something that isn't in alignment with you? If you're having a hard time working through resistance, it may be because 95% of emotions and actions arise from your subconscious mind.


Uncovering (and then healing) the subconscious mind is a critical step in reconstructing your thoughts, resulting in change. When your mindset can shift, so can your behaviors and as a result you get to experience desirable outcomes.


What happens when you meet resistance?

Have you every had one of those dreams where you’re trying to run away from something, but you can only move in slow motion?


When you’re in a state of resistance, whatever it is you’re trying to do feels harder than it should be.


You contract on a physical and emotional level – so you're more likely to feel tension in the body and lower vibration emotions.


It causes you to doubt yourself because you can’t accomplish what it is that you’re trying to do. It affects your feelings of satisfaction with important aspects of your life, like relationships and your work.


Bottom line, it takes your energy away from things that make you feel better and more joyful.


Here are some journaling prompts to begin to identify where you're meeting resistance:

  • What thoughts are cluttering your mind?

  • What beliefs do you hold that are relevant to this block?

  • What are you afraid of?

  • Where are you holding this tension in your body?

  • What can you let go of at this time?

Transitioning to a "Flow State"

Every moment is an opportunity to shift directions. We need to bring awareness to the thoughts and emotions driving our behavior, and transition to a place of allowing.


This is the place where things happen more naturally and in flow.


Whether you're trying to adopt healthier habits, get in a better emotional state, or you're stepping onto a new life path, it's important to align yourself in every way possible to manifest that change.


You know that when you meet resistance everything you try to do feels like a challenge. To be in a state of flow is quite the opposite; everything you do feels easy.


One of the keys to being able to tap into that flow state is learning to balance your masculine and feminine energies. I am not talking about these energies on a societal or cultural level, but rather on a spiritual level.


The masculine energy is physical, active, dominating, organized strategic and linear. Female energy is spiritual, reflective, creative, open-minded, adaptable and intuitive. We need both, but in balance.


Regardless of your gender identity, you have both masculine and feminine energies, and most of us are dominant in one area or the other. If you have tendencies to force and do and not relax and allow, then you’re likely dominant in masculine energy (like I am).


Here are some tips to tap into that flow energy to enhance power, pleasure, and presence:

  1. Follow your gut. Listen to your body more, and your mind less. Ask yourself, “Is this what I really want?” and LISTEN. Getting too wrapped up in analytical processes when making decisions is generally considered a quality of our masculine energy.

  2. Check in with your body. What cues are your body silently (or not-so-silently) giving you? Notice where you feel sensations like tension, discomfort and pain.

  3. Tune into your emotions. How do you feel right now? Simply ask yourself and have compassion for what arises.

  4. Get in touch with your creative side. Do things just for the joy of doing them, not because you are seeking an end product. Try to limit outside distractions when you give yourself the time to do this so you don’t get pulled back into what you “should” be doing.

  5. Pay attention to what feels easy. We often aren’t mindful of all the areas in our lives that we currently feel ease. Stop, smell and appreciate the roses.

I want to emphasize that accessing this flow state is not an end game. Once you get there, you're not just done. This is about enjoying the process of personal growth.
